外国语学院成立于2014年10月，是一所充满活力与创新精神的年轻学院。学院现有教工63人，其中专任教师51人（教授与副教授13人，博士及在读博士20人），常年聘请外籍英语教师4～6人，形成了一支结构合理、素养优良的教学科研队伍。学院拥有省级教学团队和省级课程思政示范团队各1个，学科带头人杨劲松教授为南粤优秀教师。

作为广东省人才培养模式创新实验区，学院精准对接粤港澳大湾区发展需求，秉承“教学为生命线、科研为支撑、育人为核心”的办学理念，打造“英语+医学”复合型人才培养特色，致力于培养兼具人文关怀、国际视野和跨文化交流能力的新时代创新型外语人才。

学院英语专业创新构建“1专业+4方向”培养格局，依托学校深厚的医科办学优势，开设四大特色方向：

· 中医英语方向——培养中医药文化翻译与传播人才

· 医贸英语方向——打造医药贸易复合型人才

· 商务英语方向——对接涉外商务岗位需求

· 英语教育方向——培育优秀英语教育工作者

学院紧跟新文科建设要求，学院重点向翻译、教育、编辑、外贸、传媒、文化传播等领域培养创新型及应用型人才。毕业生覆盖全省、辐射全国、涉足国外，以扎实的语言功底和复合型知识结构，在各行各业展现出强劲的职业竞争力。

学院拥有一支高水平的师资队伍，其中教授与副教授13人，博士及在读博士20人，常年聘请外籍专家任教。省级教学团队和省级课程思政示范团队双轮驱动，南粤优秀教师杨劲松教授领衔的学科团队，在教学科研领域成果丰硕。

2025-2026年，学院获批国家社会科学基金立项2项；《医学人文英语》荣膺国家一流课程；“中医文化双语智能体”入选国家语委百佳案例并荣获中国教育技术协会国赛一等奖，标志着学院在语言赋能科技创新领域取得突破性进展；《岭南文化英文课程》入选中国－印尼全球融合式课堂、并上线中拉国际课程平台；《医学人文英语》（第三版）入选国家“十四五”规划教材，并获评广东省优秀教材；《粤港澳大湾区岭南文旅教学案例集》获广东省教育厅关于2026年原创性大湾区旅游系列精品教材建设培育项目立项；医学人文英语成果获广东省教育教学成果奖二等奖1项。

学院有独立的语言实验室30间。有标准化语音终端、专业隔音机位、高清显示设备并配套有完善的教学管控系统，可高效开展听力训练、口语实训、外语测试等教学活动，为语言教学打造优质数字化实训环境。

学院获批省级语言实验教学示范中心1个，2024年获外文局文化传播中心授牌为“文化传播创新合作基地·广东中心”；建有学校大学生创新创业基地4个、工作室1个，为学生提供丰富的实践创新平台。

学院坚守医学类院校办学初心，探索“以课为媒传人文，以践为桥育匠心”的育人路径，将中医药文化、医学人文、岭南文化融入大学英语教学全流程，以零度课程理念构建“语言训练+文化融入+素养培养”三融合课程体系，创建“语言+文化+思政+实践”四位一体的思政育人新模式。

学院党委先后创建校先进基层党组织、“百个标杆基层教学组织”“十佳双带头人”教师党支部工作室等。学工团队三年来获校级以上各类表彰56人次，发表论文6篇，主持校级课题12项，2个育人案例分别获广东高校思想政治工作案例一、二等奖。

近两年来，学生获省级以上荣誉108项，学科类竞赛获奖占比92%。在全国大学生新文科大赛中获铜奖2项，省级银奖2项、铜奖1项。2025年创校级优良学风标兵班1个（学院近三年首创），优良学风班6个，零补考班1个。生均参加志愿者服务人数占比70%，位居全校第二。

学院毕业生就业率稳定，就业面广、发展路径多元。毕业生可入职各级医疗卫生机构、跨国医药企业、涉外外贸公司、外事行政单位、中小学及教育培训机构，从事医学翻译、国际商务、外事管理、英语教学、跨境运营等工作。2026届毕业生中有19位学子被复旦大学、香港大学、利兹大学等海内外知名学府录取，展现出国际化视野与跨文化竞争力。

Founded in October 2014, the School of Foreign Languages is a dynamic and innovative young academic unit. It has a faculty of 63 members, among whom 48 are full-time teachers (including 15 professors and associate professors, and 20 PhD holders or PhD candidates). Four to six native-speaking foreign teachers are recruited on a permanent basis, forming a well structured teaching and research team of high calibre. The school boasts one provincial-level teaching team and one provincial level exemplary team for curriculum based ideological education. Professor Yang Jinsong, its academic leader, is a recipient of the Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Teacher Award (Nanyue Excellent Teacher).

As an Experimental Zone for Talent training Model Innovation in Guangdong Province, the school precisely responds to the development needs of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. Upholding its educational philosophy that “teaching is the lifeline, research the pillar, and talent cultivation the core”, it features interdisciplinary “English + Medicine” talent training. It strives to nurture innovative foreign language professionals for the new era endowed with humanistic compassion, global vision and cross cultural communication competence.

For its English programme, the school has pioneered a “One Major, Four Specialisations” training framework. Leveraging the university’s solid strengths in medical education, it offers four distinctive specialisation tracks:

· TCM oriented English: Cultivating professionals for the translation and global communication of traditional Chinese medicine culture. 

· Medical trade English: Fostering interdisciplinary talents for pharmaceutical trade.

· Business English: Equipping learners for roles in foreign related business sectors.

· English Education: Preparing high calibre practitioners for English language teaching.

In alignment with the national initiative for New Liberal Arts development, the school prioritizes training innovative and practice oriented talents for translation, education, editing, foreign trade, media, and cultural communication. Its graduates are employed across Guangdong Province, throughout China and overseas. Armed with solid linguistic competence and interdisciplinary expertise, they demonstrate remarkable professional competitiveness in diverse sectors.

The school is staffed by high calibre academics, including 15 professors and associate professors plus 20 PhD holders or PhD candidates, complemented by resident foreign experts. Jointly driven by its provincial level teaching team and provincial exemplary ideological curriculum team, the academic group led by Professor Yang Jinsong, Nanyue Excellent Teacher, has yielded fruitful achievements in teaching and scholarly research.

Between 2025 and 2026, the school secured two projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China. Medical Humanities English was recognized as a National First Class Course. The “Bilingual Intelligent Agent for Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture” was selected among the Top 100 Cases by the State Language Commission and won the First Prize in the national competition hosted by the China Education Technology Association, marking a landmark breakthrough in the school’s endeavour to empower scientific and technological innovation through language. English language Course on Lingnan Culture was admitted to the China Indonesia Globally Integrated Classroom Programme and launched on the China Latin America International Curriculum Platform. The third edition of Medical Humanities English was listed as a national textbook for the 14th Five Year Plan and awarded the title of Excellent Textbook of Guangdong Province. Teaching Case Anthology of Lingnan Cultural Tourism for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area obtained funding under the 2026 Original Premium Textbook Development Project for Greater Bay Area Tourism initiated by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education. Research outcomes for Medical Humanities English also earned the Second Prize of the Guangdong Provincial Teaching Achievement Award for Higher Education.

The school operates 30 independent language laboratories furnished with standard speech training terminals, professionally sound insulated workstations and high definition display devices, together with sophisticated teaching management systems. These facilities support efficient delivery of listening drills, oral language practice and foreign language assessments, building a high quality digital environment for language instruction.

It has been accredited as a Provincial level Demonstration Centre for Language Experimental Teaching. In 2024, the Cultural Communication Centre of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration granted it the official plaque as the Guangdong Centre Innovation and Cooperation Base for Cultural Communication. Four university level innovation and entrepreneurship bases and one studio have been established to provide  practical and innovative platforms for students.

Staying true to its founding mission as a medical university based school, it explores a talent cultivation pathway described as “disseminating humanities via courses, fostering craftsmanship through practice”. It integrates traditional Chinese medicine culture, medical humanities and Lingnan culture into the full spectrum of college English teaching. Drawing on the zero curriculum concept, it builds a triintegrated curriculum system of “language training, cultural immersion and literacy development”, and pioneers a new four in one ideological education model that unites “language, culture, ideological guidance and hands on practice”.

The School Party Committee has earned honors including the University level Advanced Grassroots Party Organization, one of the “100 Benchmark Grassroots Teaching Organizations”, and a studio for the “Top Ten Dual role Teacher Party branch Secretaries”. Over the past three years, its student affairs team has received 56 awards at or above university level, published six academic papers and presided over 12 university funded research projects. Two of its education cases won respectively the First Prize and the Second Prize in the Guangdong University Ideological Political Work Case Competition.

Over the past two years, students have won 108 honors at provincial level and above, 92 % of which are subject specific competition awards. They secured two Bronze Prizes in the National University New Liberal Arts Competition, alongside two Provincial Silver Prizes and one Provincial Bronze Prize. In 2025, one Class of Excellent Academic Ethos (the first of its kind for the school in three years), six Classes of Good Academic Ethos and one Zero failure exam Class were established. Seventy per cent of students participate in volunteer services, ranking second across the whole university.

Graduates enjoy steady employment prospects with diverse career trajectories. They may work in medical and health care institutions at all levels, multinational pharmaceutical corporations, foreign oriented trading firms, foreign affairs administrative authorities, primary and secondary schools and educational training institutions, taking up roles such as medical translator, international business specialist, foreign affairs administrator, English educator and cross border operations officer. Among the class of 2026, nineteen graduates have gained admission to prestigious universities home and abroad including Fudan University, the University of Hong Kong and the University of Leeds, manifesting their global outlook and cross cultural competitiveness.
